Time for another American Revolution

Ok, I’m veering off my usual course of technical issues and sharing with any readers who might find liberty, freedom, and the foundations of America interesting or important.
I rarely share my political views, even to my friends, but I’m an ardent libertarian and a member of the Libertarian Party. To this point, Bob Barr’s presidential campaign has been the most successful third-party campaign in the last 100 years, even more so than Ross Perot. Barr is polling at 9% nationwide and as high as 14% in some states. That’s simply unprecedented and it means that Americans are finally standing up and proclaiming that they are sick and tired of the stranglehold that Republicans and Democrats have on our political process, and the state to which they have led this country.
The Barr ‘08 campaign recently produced a great video, and I promised to share it, so here goes…

I’m looking forward to finally making my vote count this year and voting for Bob Barr in November instead of one of the lost Republicans.
I donated to Marrou and Brown et al through the 90s, but after 9/11 the San Francisco Libertarian Party started getting real nutty and I just backed away.
Fortunately I live in California where it doesn’t matter where your presidential vote goes, and I don’t have the dilemma of decision anymore….
Richard Winger’s “Ballot Access News” is still up, and this is a good resource for finding which parties are deemed acceptable by The Powers That Be:

I couldn’t agree more on the need for a New Revolution. However, due to media blackout, this must be a (r)epublican Revolution; because only through becoming rugged individualists scratching out our own RealTime News can we learn and spread the truth. Without Twitter heroes like Rep. John Culberson (R-Tx) can we know what’s really happening on the floor of the House.

just a question, given how much Congressman Barr has supported the expansion of government intrusion into private life during his tenue as a congressman, how can you honestly support him as a libertarian? His congressional record thoroughly contradicts everything the libertarian party believes in.
Hey Larry, thanks for the comment. I never felt that Barr is a perfect candidate, there is no such thing. Also, his record is not ideal for libertarian principles, but after doing MUCH reading, it is not accurate to state, “His congressional record thoroughly contradicts everything the libertarian party believes in”.
I believe that he has the best interest of the party in mind and would work to implement libertarian policies as much a possible. Look, this is politics. I’m not looking at Barr as some libertarian savior. The LP wanted a higher profile name to run on the ticket and Barr wants the political opportunity.
I’m not an idealist when it comes to politics - only my own philosophy - and I’m not ignorant enough to believe for one second that politicians truly care about only being a public servant. This is a great opportunity for the LP to gain a lot of exposure and expose libertarian ideals to people who may have never heard of us before.
Well lets see, he was a sponsor of the defense of marriage act - a case of the government lurking under the beds of the nation.
was responsible for forcing northern Virginia, and DC to rename the National Airport to the Ronald Reagan National Airport; an unwelcome intrusion of the federal government into state and regional governance;
he was responsible for blocking DC’s efforts to approve marijuana use for seriously ill patients; Again undue interference with a local government.
Tried as a congress critter to ban Wicca being practiced on military bases. Doesn’t this go against freedom of religion?
And the biggie, he voted for - correct me if I’m wrong here - and was a co-sponsor of the Patriot Act. probably the biggest intrusion of the government into the lives of individuals, and a fairly large usurpation of states rights, not to mention how many parts of the bill of rights this tramples.
This isn’t the record of a libertarian.
Unfortunately it would seem that the party is giving up its ideals for the extra attention.
That’s one way of looking at it.
