Welcome to anyone from the class of 1987. It’s kinda scary to realize that you’ve reached a point in your life where you have been out of school longer than it took you to graduate. I received an email from an old classmate who was perusing Classmates.com offering her help to coordinate our 20 year reunion… from Seattle!
Personally, I’ve never attended a reunion, but after 20 years I have to say that my curiosity is at an all-time high. I have a group of very close friends that I’ve had since junior high, and I count myself very lucky to have this gang with such a rich history. However, it would be interesting to see how some of my other friends who I haven’t remained in contact with fared over the years.
I don’t know any of these answers because I have never run into a single classmate of mine, except for my group, since about 1990. I actually now live with my wife in the North Hills School District, which as a younger man, never even entered my realm of possibilities – that my children would go to the same schools that I did. It actually seems a bit creepy, but I don’t know why.
I her email, my old classmate mentioned “However, I understand, given our class’s poor track record…” not sure what this means. Perhaps the previous reunions had very little turnout, or they were inadequately planned, or maybe someone got REALLY drunk and ended up puking on our prom queen (I don’t even remember who that was).
Anyway, I’m seriously considering attending my 20th if I hear any details about it. Not 100% sure yet, though.
** UPDATE **
A LinkedIn group has been created for North hills High School alumni. Open up my profile (link provided below) and scroll down to the bottom and you’ll see the NH group logo. You can click on that to join the group.

Hey steve…I have the same curiosites as you. I googled NH 20yr reunion and this was the first hit on the list. Have you heard any scoop on a reunion? Sure would be fun to booze with old friends. Let me know.
Joe Perry (remember me?)
Hey Joe, yes I remember the name, but after all these years, the faces are getting kinda fuzzy. There finally was a response on Classmates.com from one of the previous organizers, and it wasn’t pretty. We had some 450 people in our graduating class. There apparently were 10 and 15 years reunions with 43 and 25 people showing up, respectively. Needless to say, they weren’t excited about going through all that work again for a 20 year if attendance was going to be that poor.
Can’t blame ‘em.
Hey Steve…
Don’t know if you (or Joe for that matter) remember me. At lunch today as I was telling people how when we were in high school there was a donkey basketball game. None of my coworkers believed me. So I came back to my desk and decided to google our class year to see if, by some chance, anything would pop up. Your blog popped first (can’t explain that relation, but oh well). I now live in Massachusetts, don’t get back to Pittsburgh as often as I would like. I heard through the grapevine that there would be no reunion this year for the reason you state above – lack of interest. Personally, I haven’t been to one yet, not sure if I would come back for a twenty year one.
Dan Tobin
Hi Dan, of course I remember you and I can’t believe you were Googling for the donkey basketball game. Coming from Massachusetts is a big trip for a reunion; especially considering the past attendance. I always thought people in our class were pretty tight, even across “cliques” but apparently that was just my perspective as few people even bothered to show up (scorn directed at myself as well – as it should be)
Wow…I was literally talking to my sister-in-law Stacy (Gruseck) Jessel, also a 1987 grad, about this at Christmas time. Glad to see someone’s curiosity was also piqued out there. Then I got a call from Dan Tobin a few days ago and it lead me to surf a little.
I would most likely go to a 20 year just out of curiosity, but someone needs to do a better job of contacting people because none of my friends nor I got any invitation to any of the previous reunions! I also have heard of -combo- reunions to build up attendance and also because I know a lot of us had friends that graduated a year earlier or later than us. Maybe an 86 – 88 reunion would be a big enough draw??
Chris
Likewise, Chris. I never even knew that we had a 15 year reunion and the only reason I knew we had a 10 is through the grapevine. None of my friends (about 5 other 87 grads) got an invitation either. Perhaps that was a larger contributing factor than indifference.
The combo reunion idea is actually pretty cool. However, I don’t even know who we’d contact about that.
Well I guess we could go to the North Hills Official site and find the persons ‘responsible’ for both classes (I am thinking 87 and 88, as 86 has already passed) and ask them to hook up to consider it. I will email both and see if I get a response, then update you here on your site.
BTW, can’t really remember you…but then again I partied HARD at Penn State and burned through quite a few brain cells. Do you remember me at all?
CJ
Hey Steve – amazingly I got a really quick response from the woman who coordinates all NHHS reunions. I am posting it below:

Good morning, Christian.
I think the idea of a combined reunion is fantastic. It would certainly minimize the workload for your class volunteers ~ which are typically hard to come by. As you likely know, reunions are planned solely by volunteers from that particular class.
The district is happy to assist by posting event information on the website and by providing a class listing (names and addresses). This list is from the Alumni Directory that was published in 2000.
Please let me know if/when you’re ready to post information on the website.
~ Tina
Well, same as Dan, I certainly remember the name, but I can’t put a face to it at all. Just been too long.
If only I’d bought the damned yearbook!
Dang, that was fast and very helpful. Looks like Maureen Sheehy was one of the past organizers. I’ll see if I can contact her somehow and see what she (or others) think of the idea.
Steve I just started thinking about a 20 year i didnt even realize we had a 10 and 15 year reunion. keep me posted if you hear more
Hi all,
Matt Herrmann here. I don’t know if you remember me but I do remember all of you. I would love to goto a 20 year reunion but I am certainly too busy to plan it. I live in McCandless and would do what I could to help if some else wanted to take the lead. Maybe if it is too much work we rent a grove at north park around July 4th. Also, I do have a year book.

Steve,
Good day! I’m interested in seeing if a reunion is going to occur. I was signed up to go to the last one and had to back out at the last minute. I believe Maureen Sheehy (don’t know her married name) and Amy (Young) Diak (I think that’s how it is spelled ran the last one. I hope things are well with you. I believe you recently met my brother at Eaton. His name was Jason and he told me that he talked with you. Funny that when I googled NH reunion your site came up first. Hope all is well and keep me posted. hlubbert@comcast.net.
Hey Steve!
I also googled our reunion and came up with your site. I would love to come back for a reunion, I know Mo (Sheehy) Veverka planned the other two. I live in Northern Va now…still keep up with Sharon Klein, Nancy Homyak, Debbie Riley and Julie Katzenmeyer. I know they would love to help plan. Keep us posted and take care. =)
Hi Steve,
Debbie (Schreiber) sent me the link to your blog. I attended the 10th reunion. It was nice but would have been more interesting if the attendance was better. I like the idea of a combo reunion with ’88. I live in Baltimore, MD but will be happy to help with a 20th.
Take care,
Sharon
Someone had Mo’s email and forwarded this link to her so that she could see some of the ideas that have been thrown around. Not sure if she’ll follow up here or not, but at least she’ll see that there’s some interest in a 20.
HI, THIS IS KRISTEN BRAHLER, I WENT TO THE 10 YEAR REUNION, I ENJOYED MYSELF, I WOULD LOVE TO GO TO OUR 20 YEAR REUNION, PLEASE E-MAIL ME OR CALL AT 412-716-2997 OF ANY INFORMATION, I CURRENTLY LIVE IN ROSS TOWNSHIP, HAVE A 11 YEAR DAUGHTER, AND I AM A NURSE. PLEASE RESPOND
This is actually a shout out to CJ
I know this sounds freakishly weird but I was googling you at work today and came across this website.
Shoot me an e-mail some time :jmoulthrop@yahoo.com
I have an original Liquid Faith CD
So then…any word about if this thing is gonna happen? If not this year, then maybe we could still do the ‘combo’ reunion with the Class of 88 next summer or something? Thoughts?
Hey Folks!
Glad to hear all the chatter about a reunion. It’s good to know that there are still classmates that are interested in our class. I do have to make a comment, however, regarding the entries about people not being contacted. I can’t tell you how much time, effort, and money that I (along with Patty Miller, Lori Raible, Amy Young Diak, and Debbie Biggart) put into trying to contact all the ’87 alumni. We got the list from the high school of every student’s most current address (or their last known address)and sent letters out. We also put ads on the local TV stations as well as in the Pennysaver. So, if you didn’t get contacted, it wasn’t for lack of trying or effort. Email was utilized as much as possible. Organizing these reunions is SO time consuming, especially for such a low turnout. We must have met 3-4 times just trying to get everything organized, in addition to countless hours working on each of our designated “reunion tasks.” I love doing this sort of thing, but not if only 40 and 25 alumni are going to show up. As I said at Classmates.com, I wanted to get an idea of the interest and thus created one of their surveys to judge the interest. If enough people respond, then we can definitely put something together-with people’s help. It’s easy to say you want a reunion, but it’s another thing to actually do all the planning. Email all your ’87 alumni friends and direct them to the survey so we can see the response. I would be very interested in a ’88 combined reunion-don’t know who their contact would be. I tried to set one up with the ’86 class but they weren’t interested.
Hope to hear from a lot of you so we can get together!-Mo
Hi this is Leigh Gionta. I would b interested in a reunion as well as helping out any way that i could. I went to the 10 year and was very dissappointed in the turn out but still enjoyed myself. I live in Hampton which is close. My number is 724-712-7100.

Hi Folks!
I just wanted everyone to know that hasn’t seen the announcement on Classmates.com, the NHHS website, or in the local papers that there is a 20 yr union planned for Friday, Nov 23rd at Shenanigan’s Bar & Grill (the old Oregon) on Babcock Blvd from 6pm-? $2 drink specials and $1 off food from 6-10pm. I tried to put together a more formal event by taking a survey on classmates.com (where 145people from our class are registered) and only got 25 people (including guests) that were interested. So, I decided to try a more casual approach so no deposits would have to be put down, seeing as we have no money left in our account. Please pass on this info to any other alumni. I’m sorry if people didn’t know about this but I have tried as hard as I could to notify everyone. Hope to see you there!
Mo
Hi Mo…
Thanks for the effort. Unfortunately, the short notice will make it impossible for me to get into Pittsburgh from Boston. Maybe once the dust settles from this one, we can discuss creating a class webpage where we can place information like this, and enable our classmates to contact one another, without the cost associated with classmates.com. Just a thought.
Have a great time this coming Friday…
Dan
Hi Steve,
I was wondering what became of the jumpers from the track team from the class of 1987…! (Love the Charlie Daniels quote next to your picture on this web page, by the way.)
Though I had not attended any of the previous reunions, I did make it to this year’s reunion at Shenanigans. It was a great time and many thanks to Mo, Patty, and the rest for organizing it. Just my two cents but I preferred this setting (though a bit loud–damn I’m getting older) to a more formal affair which would have cost a lot of money (and damn–I’m cheap too).
Hope to see some of you in another five years??

Hey there from a class of ’88 grad
I’ve heard nothing about an ’88 reunion but if there is still an interest in combining those who missed the ’87 reunion with ’88 (or something like that) I’m up for helping plan. The caveat is that I live in Connecticut.
My email is steve_mcdonald at usa-dawt-net
(Sorry I type it cryptically so the spammers will not find it. dawt=dot, of course)

Hi there!
Greetings from Sunny, warm, and beautiful Key West, Florida!
This is my home now. Hard to believe I am 90 miles from Cuba! I have been here a few years. I am currently in Law Enforcement down here. I am Detention Deputy Sheriff and often work with my headquarters on a number of issues.
The last known event was a few years ago when only a ‘select few’ were invited. I happen to find out because my 1st cousin, Keith Morrison married Denise Lorenz of the graduating Class of 1988. During the conversation during one of the family get togethers, she slipped and acknowledged that there have been reunions over the years. Annoyed at this, I questioned her as to why she did feel it was important enough to inform my mother, others or even myself. She shrugged her shoulders gave a blank stare. She gave no response. Poor planning?
I strongly feel that most us 1987 and 1988 Grads have left the wonderful city of Pittsburgh for careers moves, a better ecomony and to explore the unknown through love or just casting our sails to the wind, sailing away from the safe harbor to explore the vast unknown.
I think something should be planned. I think a website developed to those specifically for a joint venture with both 87 & 88 grad classes or something on Classmates.Com
Also, we should all try and stay in touch.
Regards,
Jim Dehring

Wow- what a blast from the past. I’m married,(Snead)live in Maryland, have two wonderful kids and teach math. It was so neat to read about the previous reuinions and the interest in other reunions. I do remember quite a few of you. I graduated in 1988(I was in the flag line). I know we had a 10 year reunion, but was not sent an invitation. My parents even live at the same address as when I was in shcool. Other friends of mine did receive an invitation, but we chose not to go. Twenty years have passed and now I’m really curious about everyone. I will keep checking to find out any information on reunions.
Hi from class of 1988. I wondered if there was going to be a reunion this year and found this. So fun to read! Hi to Steve and Mo! Is there going to be anything? I live in Florida so I have to plan.
Hey all, I am from the class of 1988 and there will be a reunion on August 2, 2008 at the North Park Cabana Bar at the Oxford Club in Wexford, PA. The address is 100 Village Club Drive, Wexford, PA 15090. It starts at 6:00 and goes until ? Michele Burke (Mooney) is organizing the event. I know she is eager to have responses, as she has sent out another e-mail. I found this website googling another classmate to find out some information. Anyway, Michele Burke’s e-mail is michelemooney@columbus.rr.com. She wanted us all to spread the word about the reunion. I am going even though I knew more people from the class of 1987. I think it may be a good time. The combination of a 1987-1988 reunion would have been fantastic!! Take care.
will be there on the 20th
Hey Class of 1988,
This is Guzzo I didn’t graduate with you but I still remember you guys. I wanted to say WHAT’S UP. Gary do you remember Joe Tomassic and Matt Grabski? If you see them tell them I said Hello.
Peace Out
Lori Guzzo
