Guitar Hero I was a lot of fun for me. I enjoyed playing almost every single song on the set list and made a CD that has just about all of the songs on it. Songs that I had never heard before are now some of my favorites:

  • Heart Full of Black
  • Take It Off
  • Ace of Spades
  • Take Me Out

When I heard they were releasing a sequel, I couldn’t wait. When they released an early song list, I was excited to see some favorites on there like YYZ and You Really Got Me. Now that I finally have the game and have been playing it for a couple of weeks, it’s been a real let down with just a few bright spots. So far I’ve enjoyed playing all the songs that I know, but the lesser known songs aren’t fun to play at all – not like the first time I played Take It Off and fell in love with it.

These new songs – like Laid To Rest and Who Was In My Room Last Night and Carry Me Home to name a few – are boring as hell. There’s not a kickass beat or rhythm or lyrics to the song that makes me want to play them over and over again. I just want to get past them so that I never have to play them again. My latest conquest, Carry Me Home, was torture on the Hard level, and not because it was hard to play (which it was… very) but because it’s an awful song.

In fact, the entire set list for Furious Fretwork are all songs that I know I’ll never play again once I beat them. Well, besides the encore which is one of my all-time favorite songs. Maybe it’s because I’m not in my teens or twenties any more and my reflexes aren’t what they used to be, but I don’t like playing a song on this game just to prove how fast I can play notes. I want to enjoy playing it.

On many of these songs, I simply am not enjoying myself. They are obstacles to getting to songs that are good.
