Well today is my last day here at work in Pittsburgh.
I’ll be taking the next two days off to finish up all the little projects around the house to get it “sellable” – as well as packing as many boxes as I can while leaving enough for the girls when they get home. Then around 5 AM on Saturday, I’ll be filling up my UHaul (the haul behind kind) and taking that long road to Nashville, never to look back again. At least this time, I’ll have the Goose with me to keep me company.
The Goose (short for Angus – or Angoose)

I ended up renting a place in Bellevue (we currently live right next to a borough of Pittsburgh called Bellevue – which is also where I grew up) after looking in other parts of town. It reminds me most of an area in which I lived previously here in Pittsburgh called McCandless. Semi-forested, close to parks, close to some shopping centers, but remote enough that I don’t have to worry about Michelle and Sabrina’s safety.
We’ll live here for a year while we scout out the different areas of the city looking for a home again. Michelle and I definitely are not the kind of people who want to buy a McMansion in one these sterile, planned, walled, and gated communities where every house looks the same, and the color of the handkerchief you wear to work is regulated. We call them Yuppie Maggot Farms where the children are typically overprotected, insulated and spoiled (again, typical, and not indicative of every homeowner in these communities).
We want a place that has access to nature, where kids still run around on the sidewalks and streets and has a real feeling of community and culture. It takes a while to find a place like that since all new development plans don’t have any of those features.
Thanks to everyone who provided information on resources in Nashville. I’ll be checking them out shortly after I’m moved in and look forward to seeing some new faces.
